Camera & Microphone

There are a number of reasons why your camera or microphone may not be working. Here are some troubleshooting tips for you, in case you are experiencing one of these issues:

Browser permissions not enabled

Another application is using your camera and/or microphone

Unsupported device

No device found

Unmuted microphone, no sound

Browser permissions not enabled

When you join an AllTakes session for the first time, you will likely be asked to give your browser permission to access your microphone and camera. Make sure to enable this permission!

You’ll be muted upon entry, so make sure to unmute to speak!

Still having trouble or missed this alert? You can set browser permissions manually:

For Google Chrome:

  • In the top right corner of the Google Chrome bar, click the three dots icon, then choose Settings.

  • Click Privacy and security > Site settings > Camera or Microphone.

  • Check to make sure your default setting is “Sites can ask to use your camera/microphone.”

Chrome on iOS, iPhone or iPad

  • On your iPhone or iPad, open the Chrome app .

  • Go to a site that wants to use your microphone or camera.

  • When prompted, tap Allow or Block.

  • If you’ve turned off microphone or camera access, you can turn on your mic or camera permissions in your device settings.

    • Device Settings -> Chrome -> turn on camera and microphone

For Safari:

  • In the Menu bar at the very top of the screen, click “Safari“ and select “Preferences”.

  • Select “Websites” from the top of the window.

  • Go to the “Camera” and “Microphone” tabs.

  • Change access to “Allow”.

  • Restart Safari.

For Firefox:

  • In the Menu bar at the very top of the screen, click Firefox and select “Preferences”.

  • Click “Privacy & Security” from the left menu.

  • Scroll down to the “Permissions” section.

  • Click the “Settings…” button for the Camera and/or microphone option.
Firefox displays the websites with saved Allow or Block permission.

  • Select “Allow” from the status menu

  • Click “Save Changes”

For Mac users:

  • Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Camera/Microphone.

  • Make sure Google Chrome is checked.

For Windows users:

  • For camera, go to Settings > Privacy > Camera > Let apps use my camera > [Google Chrome].

  • For microphone, go to Settings > System > Sound.

“I gave my browser permissions, but my camera is still not working!!”

Sit tight and “Refresh Devices” in the “Setup” setting within the Roundtable.

Another application is using your camera and/or microphone

Option 1: Close the application

  1. Close, quit, or log out of other applications used for video calls.

In most cases, Zoom has recently been used and will need to be closed.

  2. Rejoin the AllTakes video session.

Option 2: Select another device

If you have another camera or microphone, you can select that from the dropdown menu in “Set Up”

Option 3: Restart your computer

We know, we know! This is not ideal. But if none of the above steps worked, as a last resort, you can restart your computer to get that pesky video application turned off. Once it’s off, AllTakes can connect.

If you are still having trouble, please email support@alltakes.com.

Unsupported device

Look at you, unicorn! AllTakes supports a number of devices, but not the one you have!

You can select a supported device from the camera dropdown. We support a number of devices, so if you feel your device should be supported, email us at support@alltakes.com.

No device found

We couldn’t find a camera or microphone to connect to! Be sure your device is supported, connected, and powered on.

If you are still having trouble, please email support@alltakes.com.

Unmuted microphone, no sound

Microphone unmuted but people can’t hear you?

Try going into setup, clicking the mic, and re-clicking the checked microphone (or select a different one).
